Economic Development is Hard Work and a Long Game

He points out that the most successful economic development organizations are the ones that regularly make the phone calls, do the mission trips, and attend conferences where they can be in regular contact with corporate executives, site consultants, and real estate brokers. Dean also notes that the economic development industry is a long game — one that sometimes takes years to yield results. Unfortunately, EDO leaders and elected officials sometimes get impatient, expecting results right now. You know how that works.
